The Honey Locust tree grows very long and sharp thorns on it's lower branches, and many of these long thorns have smaller and even sharper thorns growing off of them. They look like they belong on the savannah or in the desert, but I first noticed them on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, along my walk to work. Eventually I realized that I wanted to work with those shapes, so I plucked a few. For this earring I took a single Honey Locust thorn and cast it in brass, and then curved it into a classic tapered hoop with an extra little thorn jutting out from the front.

It's 1" across and 3/8" wide, tapering to a point that tucks neatly behind your earlobe.

White bronze is a less dense metal than sterling silver, so these earrings feel a little lighter in the ear than they look like they would.

The brass earrings are oxidized, and then brushed to a silvery finish, with sterling silver posts and extra large sterling silver earring backs.

Handmade in Brooklyn, and they ship in a gift box. The paper lining the gift box may be different than what is pictured, but it will be just as pretty.
